Letter from the Founder and Owner

          

Dear Friends,

You no doubt have noticed how “Green Living” has suddenly become the hottest trend in home design. Today, even the big box retailers are scrambling to offer earth friendly products to meet the needs of their eco minded customers. Of course, this new level of responsibility and environmental awareness is welcomed, if not long over-due.

But it’s not new to us. Ever since we opened our doors on Clark Street in May 2006, we have sought to design, buy, and sell contemporary furniture and accessories that are both fresh and exciting and that -- as much as possible -- minimize the “environmental footprint” we leave behind.

Like the reclaimed railroad ties from Asia we’ve incorporated into our furniture line. And our popular private collecton of hand silkscreened organic cotton bedding and clean-burning soy candles.

We are especially proud of our durable (and very well-priced) selection of green sustainable bamboo flooring. Already four Andersonville businesses -- including the eco-friendly children’s store Green Genes -- have already chosen this Urbanest exclusive flooring for their storefront floors.

You also may be pleased to know that for the Urbanest private label lines, we only contract with pre-qualified factories to help ensure the highest quality, the best prices, and the most responsible manufacturing practices.

I also take great personal pride in searching the world for one-of-a-kind art pieces that utilize environmentally sustainable resources in unique ways. For example, we recently carried a small selection of wooden bird figures -- designed by Americans and sculpted out of reclaimable driftwood by artisans in a village of Honduras. Works like this are not mass-produced, so by their vary nature are only available in limited quantities. But at Urbanest, you’ll always see something you won’t find anywhere else.

Realistically, it’s not always possible to only use ecologically sustainable resources, and true “Green Living” is as much a journey as a destination. But at Urbanest, it’s a journey we’re making in style. We hope you’ll visit us soon.
